Associate Professor of English Ann Kibbie will present a lecture on Patricia Highsmith's "Strangers on a Train" next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Main Lounge, Moulton Union as part of the Bowdoin Book Lecture Series.

Highsmith (1921-1995) was an American novelist and short story writer who was perhaps best known for her psychological thrillers. Her works have garnered both commercial and critical acclaim. A number of her novels, including "Strangers on a Train" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley," have been adapted into screenplays. Highsmith was nominated for the Edgar Allen Poe Award on multiple occasions and was awarded the O. Henry Award in 1946 for the publication of her first short story, "The Heroine."

"Strangers on a Train" has been adapted for the screen several times, most notably by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951.

Hitchcock's film will be shown the day before Kibbie's lecture. Both the screening and talk are sponsored by the Association of Bowdoin Friends.

The screening will take place Monday at 7 p.m. in the Beam Classroom of the Visual Arts Center. Both events are free and open to the public.
