To the Editors:
I am appalled by the racial hate speech incident reported in the March 4 issue of the Orient, "Bias Incident Strikes 15th Floor of Tower." It makes me wonder if the perpetrator has learned—or will learn—anything of value during his/her time at Bowdoin.
I went to college during the civil rights marches in the 1960s. Those days of ignorant prejudice and bigotry should be long behind us. Apparently they are not. I hope the Bowdoin student body will treat this incident with the seriousness it deserves and not let it pass with a shrug of indifference. Such actions have no place in a civilized society.
Sincerely,
