The women's squash team recovered from a 9-0 thrashing at the hands of Bates on Wednesday night with a 6-3 victory over Colby on Thursday night.
After No. 1 Lauren Gesswein '11 lost her first game, she won three straight to beat Kate Pistel of Colby. There were also four players who beat their opponents without dropping a game.
Both the men's and women's squash teams took home victories last weekend at the Yale University Round Robin Tournament in New Haven, Conn. The Bowdoin men defeated Stanford, but fell to Amherst and St. Lawrence. The women defeated St. Lawrence, but fell to Stanford, Amherst, Franklin & Marshall and Mount Holyoke.
The weekend leaves the men at 3-8 overall and the women at 2-11.
Gesswein carried the women's team, winning four matches and improving to 8-4 for the year. Playing in the No. 1 slot, she scored the lone Bowdoin point in the matches against Amherst, Franklin & Marshall and led the 9-0 sweep of St. Lawrence.
Barrett Tarkesian '13 stood out for the men this weekend, coming away with a perfect 3-0 performance, earning three points and improving to 7-2. He extended his consecutive win streak to seven matches. William Fantini '13 and Rahul Madan Mohan '11 each won two matches for the Polar Bears.
Clint Trenkelbach '13 expressed frustration about the team's recent performance, but was hopeful for the future.
"It was a tough weekend, but we're optimistic and will hopefully have another shot at them between NESCACs and Nationals," he said.
Monica Wlodarczyk '13 was also disappointed in last weekend's performance.
"This past weekend was tough, but I'm confident that with continued practice, the team will continue to develop and be in a much better place to compete by the time nationals rolls around in early March," she said. "The team relishes the opportunity to gain our first conference victory this weekend against Tufts and Connecticut College at our home court."
The teams will take the court this weekend at the Lubin Family Squash Center. The men host Boston College tomorrow while the women take on Tufts and Connecticut College as a continuation of the Maine Round Robin Tournament.
